Let’s be honest, our run-ins with festivity and celebration kind of start from around and before Halloween. And from there, we do go through a series of get-togethers, after parties, pre-parties and the craziness can go on. Luckily, this type of overzealous celebration is usually the younger crowd’s pull. Still, we have millennials who are passing through that phase of adulthood where their systems straight-up deny them any relief if they push themselves too hard.
But then, we even have those kinds of people who have taken a sabbatical from it all but still can’t overwhelm their impulses of doing one more shot extra during the festive season. But if we were also honest, there should be no harm in overindulging in things if you have the comfort of your loved ones around you. So, that being said, we come to an understanding that we all are in this together and that we have decided to brave the Christmas hangover with little more than our second cousin’s useless pep-talk.
Detox You and Rest
You read that, right! We want you to understand that your health right now is not ready to take up any more intoxicants or carbs or any festive grub of any sort. It would be best to keep laying down here for a moment. So, on the next day after celebrating a massive Christmas dinner, when you wake up, just take a break and keep still for a minute because you need to catch a breath both physically and mentally from all that excitement and oversharing. Rest your body as you remain still to meditate and concentrate on your breathing. Take deep breaths and don’t take it as an excuse to fall back asleep. Mind you, it is essential to rest adequately but don’t overdo your stay there.
You already were in the same place last year, same time. And you already are aware of how rich foods and alcohol can mess with your body. Your after-Christmas detox list needs to include fruits, vegetables, and water to help get rid of the residual junk out of your system. So, go in deep for a complete detox diet that will help cleanse your system from the inside out.
- Start your day with boiled eggs or a smoothie.
- Have a lot of water(10 ounces+1 whole Lemon).
- Avoid alcohol, tea and coffee. But you can sip on some home-brewed green tea.
- Try to avoid sugar. Instead, use honey to sweeten your beverages.
- Have soups and stews made with seasonal vegetables.
- Have light food for lunch, maybe a salad and soup.
- Avoid fatty snacks and keep dinner light as well.
- Spinach, Kale, Simple Proteins, Coconut Water, Tomato fruit juice, all these will help you in your diet.
Post-Christmas Detox Exercise
It may be challenging for you to get up and exercise the day after Christmas, but we assure you, it is imperative. You should know that exercise is always an important part of any detox plan. But, if you think you will come out of a Christmas dinner party without gaining a few pounds overnight, then you are mistaken. Do try not to be too hard on yourself just because you don’t want to get fat. It’s better to enjoy some quality time with your favorites without any restrictions or inhibitions, mainly because you’ll be straight up acting like a killjoy and ruining the mood for others by turning down the festive food you are being offered by becoming too conscious. Don’t do that. Work out and exercise for the next three weeks, just a few minutes extra, and you’ll definitely be getting back to your desired shape and weight in no time.
Keep hydrating during all this because you are still slightly wasted. And make sure that the water you’re having is infused with some electrolytes. That will help you recover from dehydration.
This the part where you do get to sleep and snore away to your personal and endless happy oblivion. Because it will feel like nirvana after a jam-packed Christmas with extra helpings of festive socializing, being apprehended by a certain aunt who thinks you should get married before you get too old, food and desserts that don’t seem to stop coming, etc., etc. There may be an altercation with their skin for women that would seem to be breaking out after last night’s extra glitter.
Take this day and clean out all the stressful gunk from your mind and from over your skin. Incorporate heady neck massages, listen to soothing music, read a book, take a walk around your backyard, take a day for yourself, your skin, body, and mind to recover from the excitement of Christmas with a post-Christmas detox routine like this one.
